    I realize this is usually the simplest thing to do. However, I am finding this task time consuming. When I ty to format a floppy, I delete the info, and then hit format. Usually it has always taken a few minutes. Now in XP I attempted format a disc and it goes on forever. Why?
    I bought new floppy's, but in XP it is still slow

    Your help please!

    Formatted a floppy in my XP using standard format and it took approximately 90 seconds, Quick format took about 5 seconds.

    When you try formatting a floppy do you see any activity in the progress bar on the Format window?

    When formatting a disk are you doing so through the menu bar, or by right clicking on the drive?

    Have you tried formatting from the CMD window?

    I right click or go to a drive highlight it, hit format
    What is the CMD window?
    I see a bar at the bottom of a window with a green movement scale. This has taken a long time to move along.

    When you open the format window is the option to Quick Format available? If so, what happens when you try it?

    CMD is the command window. This is the equivalent of a DOS window in earlier version of windows. Access the command window by clicking on Start then Run, enter CMD and click OK.

    Once in a command window type Format /? and press enter to see the syntax commands available.

    If you are trying to format a disk in the A drive the command would be;

    Format A:

    HTH
