Have You already formated C: ?

Depending on which manufacturer, they use the recovery partition in different ways.
On a HP Pavilion there is a program "HP Restore" which use the recovery partition to reset the computer to "factory fresh condition ". In performing that operation, if format is chosen, the computer is cleared of any virus.
Other manufacturers use a bootable floppy to run the restore program.

I'm not sure but I don't think that the recovery partition is vulnerable to virii and malware. It wasn't infected on the Pavilion I fixed a few weeks ago.

If You already have formated C: and have no means of using the recovery partition, go ahead and format D: because it is of no use anyway.
