My daughter has a new-ish Dell laptop with Windows 7. She just e-mailed me this:

Recently I got a feature that wherever my cursor goes on text a small window pops up giving me the definition of whatever word it's on in several foreign languages. Don't know where the feature came from and can't figure out how to turn it off. Any ideas?

I've never had that occur on my desktop that also runs Win7. Suggestions welcome.

Thanks for replying. She didn't say, but I just sent your questions to her and I'll wait for her reply. Anyone here ever experience the problem she describes?

    My daughter just sent this:

Dad, it happens on IE and on Facebook and on other websites but it hasn't yet here on email.

    Does that help?

Hi Bobbo, does your daughter have google toolbar installed, the problem sounds like it would be coming from there, right click on the toolbar or click on the spanner at the right hand end, then click on toolbar options un-check the translate box at the bottom of the page and un-check any other options you don't want!

    Hope that helps

    regards Jac

Jac: I forwarded your suggestion to her. I'm not sure how long it will be before she sees it and gets back to me. I'll post the results when I get them. Thanks.

    No Problem Bobbo,
I just turned the shed computer on & I hadn't disabled it on there either, another pre-add-on from google, it is a great tool if you need it, you just need to disable it if you don't

I just received this message from my daughter:

I tried the translate button on the Google strip and turned off the feature and now no more annoying window. Thanks for the tip.

    So I thank you, too.

I'll mark the thread as Resolved.

    Your welcome,
I stumbled upon the problem a few weeks back after an update on the new laptop, I was also annoyed by Sidewiki which is also installed at the same time.

The Word Translator feature of the Google Toolbar is a current update .....

Rather than disable the Translation feature, which can be useful at times, simply click on the dropdown arrow on the Translate button and uncheck Word translator.
