I use MS Sans Serif font for my newsletter created with Microsoft Publisher 2002. My computer runs the XP operating system. When I send it to people who have Publisher 2002 on machines running Windows 98, the program will not recognize the font and wants to substitute it with a different font. Of course, that throws eveything off. Is there a way around it? :(

They would have to install your font on their machines if available. I take it that this is an email newsletter so can be talked about like a web page. When you declare a font it will only display that font if the machine in question has that font installed. If the system dosen't find the font it will replace it with the closest font in it's "opinion ".

My advice would be to use a font that is installed when windows is for the earliest OS you want to target.

Here is another kinda tricky thing you could do. If you have a scanner print out the newsletter then scan it. You can now just use the images. The biggest downside to this is that the end readers will have a much longer download of it expecailly if they are on dialup. Also they won't be able to cut or copy/paste particular pieces of the text as it won't be text... it will be an image. With the downsides I wouldn't really recommend this but the font would be the same on any machine.

 MS San Serif is a common on all windows machines. It is installed in the fonts section of windows 98. Publisher just won't recognize it being there.

This is just a stab in the dark but is it possible that they redid the font in XP and 98 no longer sees it as the same?
