    Hi all!

When I installed WinME, the folder dates remained the same and also for all other folders that were subsequently created.

I have noticed that a lot of the folders on my new WinXpPro installation have had their folder dates altered.

Anyone know why this occurs and the logic behind it?

    Thanks for Your time,
    Christer

XP will change the folder date to the latest date you made a change to the folder contents. Add/delete/modify a file and you'll have the date updated.

As to the logic behind it - I never did understand why earlier systems kept the original install date on the folders. What good is that?

Actually, you can have both the "created" and the "modified" dates shown, as well as a whole raft of other info (which you won't have room to display, of course).

Either select Choose Details from the View menu in Windows Explorer, or right-click anywhere in the Name, Size, etc. bar in the right pane and make your choices.

    Hi Newt!

The good thing about keeping the original date is that you can determine when a program was installed or a specific job was undertaken. "The folder for this correspondence was created in march 2003 so, this is when I started this job. "

I, for one , think it was better the old way.

    Thanks for the explanation,
    Christer

    Hi Jim,
    You´re quite right!

I´ve set Windows Explorer to show details. For my programs folder it shows 2003-06-07, when I obviously did the latest installation. A right-click and properties shows that it was created on 2003-06-04.

    Thanks,
    Christer
