The last two days presented a problem for me with attaching pictures to emails. The problem doesn't lie with the email provider but more so my system, I believe. When I do an "attach file ", choose "Pictures ", all my picture folders do not appear in the selection pane, just a handful and I have many picture folders. For the life of me, I cannot figure out what happened. I have added no software or made any changes to the computer that I am aware of. I now have to do a search to bring up the folder I wish to choose a picture from...a PITA. I did check my pictures file and all the folders are there as they normally would be. Anyone have a clue? Thank you!

What email program are you using? Or are you using a web based email - if so - which one?

Actually I use two email programs, Bluehost for my in home business, and gmail for my personal email. The same thing happens with either email program so I pretty well ruled out the email programs. When I click on the Windows icon in the extreme lower left of the monitor and select pictures from the drop down menu, all my picture folders are as they should be. Very weird. Thank you for your reply.

In Gmail, when I click the Attach "paper clip" I can go to any folder on my computer...

I believe there is a difference between some of the built in folders. I believe some "Picture" folders are Libraries ....which is a bit different than a regular folder.

One sure fire way to solve this is to move all of the pictures to a new folder that you create.

Moving all my pictures (thousands) to another folder is not an option I'd like to do. They are all categorized.

Spyware, that's what I have to do now if I want to attach a pic from a folder. I have to do a search on the selection pane to find the folder I want. The only time I see all of them is if I go directly to pictures to view photos, folder blah blah. They/many disappear only when I want to attach a picture. I use two email programs and the results are the same for each. This all worked great two days ago and haven't changed a thing. The picture tree is there in its entirety except when I want to attach a photo. If it worked two days ago, what in the heck could have changed that I cannot do that now. It's pure craziness. Here is a shot of my normal folder layout with no email used.

And here is my folder shot with wanting to attach a pic. All the folders can't be seen in the picture because I cannot expand the window but there are only 11 folders present.

Thanks guys! I see the HTML BB doesn't work on this forum, didn't see any pics, just the links.

Use "System Restore" to roll Windows back to a previous state when your computer was functioning correctly:

I'll try that, back it up to about a week ago and see what happens.

I decided not to try the back up as I have several new documents relating to sales every day and I am told that if I do a restore I will lose all documents created between now and the period to which I restore to. Geez I wish I could fix the problem because I use it several times a day and it's driving me crazy. Here is what is really nutty, when I'm typing a Word document and insert a picture, the picture files come up correctly, all folders are displayed. The problem only exists with both of my email programs so I'm ruling out that an individual email program is causing the problem.

Now another problem cropped up due to my wife using the computer last (she doesn't know how she did it). The task bar which was once on the very bottom of the screen is no placed vertically on the extreme left of the screen. Can't see anywhere how I can move this back to the bottom of the screen.

Right click on the task bar and unlock it. Then left click on it and drag it back down to the bottom. Then lock it again.

Thanks Mr. Bill. That solved the toolbar problem and I will make sure it is locked. It was not locked so I could see where moving that could happen. Now to get the other problem solved. I will try the restore.

Well I tried system restore to a date when I knew it was working properly and displayed all my folders. It didn't do a thing for it, still the same. Spyware DR was correct, it didn't change a thing.

Actually, it was MrBill that predicted it wouldn't work.

When you go to attach a file and that Window Explorer window pops up, move the mouse cursor around the bottom right corner of that window until it changes to a little double-headed arrow at a 45° angle. Then while holding down the left mouse button move the mouse a bit down toward you and to the right. When you get the window the size you want, release the mouse button.

I tried enlarging the window but all that did was expand the window, didn't show all my folders.

IJ50, I tried that quite a while ago and was no help. It's just crazy how I can click on the Windows icon at the very bottom left of the screen and select either documents or pictures, and all the folders are there. This doesn't just happen with pictures, many of the document folders are missing as well when I get the window to attach a file. Just...all of a sudden, overnight, it doesn't work or show all my folders when I go to attach a file.

If you're still looking under the "Libraries" tree, you're in the wrong place.

Try this: In the left pane of Windows Explorer,
    1. scroll down to and then double-click "Desktop" to expand it (if not already expanded),
    2. under "Desktop ", double-click "Computer" to expand it (if not already expanded),
    3. under "Computer" double-click your "whatever it's named C:" drive to expand it (if not already expanded),
    4. under your "C:" drive, double-click the "Users" folder to expand it (if not already expanded),
    5. under the "Users" folder, double-click "your username "'s folder to expand it (if not already expanded),
    6. and finally, click the "My Pictures" folder.

Another way to get there is to simply type in:

    c:\users\name\pictures

in the "File name:" box and press [Enter].
