Running XP Pro - I much prefer to view all the files in each folder using the "detailed" view which shows all the file parameters.

For some reason, even though I have the box checked to keep the view settings (under Tools/Folder Options/view), each time I set the view to show "Detailed" for each flder type, it reverts to the large icon view every time I go back to folder.

How do I get the folders to really hold the "detailed" view setting?

Is there a way to do a "global" setting (in the registry...?) so that the fles are always shown in the detailed view?

    Thanks and regards, Glen

    Run--> regedt32
Back up these registry keys (if you like):

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell
    NoRoam\BagMRU

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell
    NoRoam\Bags

    Delete them.

A complement solution is to increase the number of slots used. To do this:

    Under the Registry Key
    [HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\ShellNoRoam\]

Create a new DWORD Value called "BagMRU Size" and set it to whatever number of slots you want (4000 decimal is good). Remember to select the Base "decimal" when changing the value because it's easy to forget and enter it as hexadecimal thus getting an actual number that's somewhat bigger.

Restart Windows and set your folders as you want.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------

If you'd prefer not to do this manually, you can increase your remembered folder number to 8000 with this:

    http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/regs_edits/bags8000.reg

And you can make a reg file the delete the bags entries by pasting this into Notepad and saving as "Bags.reg ":

    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\ShellNoRoam\BagMRU]
    [-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\ShellNoRoam\Bags]

(There should be no spaces between "Shell" and "No" in the reg file.)

Thanks for the awesome response Abraxas!

I searched the registry and couldn't find any entries for NoRoam\BagMRU or NoRoam\Bags so I obviously couldn't delete them...

I searched for "\Software\Microsoft\Windows\ShellNoRoam\" and found multiple entries (eg. under Current_User, User etc -

Would I make this change to all these 'accounts'????

Also - just so I'm clear - can I fix my problem ONLY by doing the 'complement' solution (ie. adding the new DWORD with 4000 size varibale for the new BagMRU Size??/

Many thanks again - remind me to contact you if I ever also need help fixing my home dishwasher or with my or car fuel injectors... <grin>

Very strange that you don't have those entries. Remeber there is no space, so you are looking for "ShellNoRoam ".

I was wondering myself if just running the reg file and increasing the number of slots would solve the problem on its own. Couldn't hurt to try.
