    The folder is empty.

In "properties" the folder is empty. It cannot be moved or renamed.

It is inside of a folder which is inside of a folder on the desktop.

message is: "Cannot delete file: cannot read from source file or disk. "

File Assassin cannot delete it. It says the path is not a valid file name.

    I have found this utility:
    http://www.snapfiles.com/downloads/Unlocker/dlUnlocker.html

But it has two options to open in the zip file:
    One folder named "x64 "
    the other named "x86 "

Both have exe files in them. My OS is XP Home (32 bit). Which of these options would be right, if this utility is used?

Or would there be a better method for deleting this folder?

x86 is for 32 bit OS. Unlocker is a well respected & often recommended utility.

In the x86 folder there are 2 exe files.
    1. Unlocker.exe
    2. Unlocker Assistant.exe

I am reading some bad reports on Unlocker.exe here:
    http://www.file.net/process/unlocker.exe.html

e.g. that it can function as malware and trojan.

Is there a more reliable program?

It was difficult to get into Safe Mode. When I press F8 I get the same screen that gives me only Recovery Console or Normal Windows.

(I talked about my problems working with the boot screen in my thread about installing Linux.)

I finally got into Safe Mode accidentally by leaving the BIOS screen then banging on the keys.

But in Safe Mode, the folders could not be deleted for the same reason: "could not find path... "

I was able to delete the folders from Knoppix.

(It would be nice to know more about this "file path" problem.)

I have a bit of idle time and you have asked a question I have not seen or researched the reasons for in such a long time, I had forgotten why. I did a quick study-up, out curiosity, and Just to round out this post decided to share a bit.

    Hi dispatch trophy,
You asked and the following is just for F.Y.I:
    Message
is given for a variety of reasons the following is a few:

A "working method needed" to "delete the file or folder" will depend on why the file is throwing out this error. As you have discovered sometimes it takes very little effort or method and in other cases more complicated full spectrum measures must be taken.
