Having had to rebuild an XP pro installation we now can not get access to the folders that were set for private access only. We keep getting the access denied message even though we have re-created the original user name & password.

Has anyone any ideas to get around this ???

    Thanks

    Rory

You have identical appearing (to people) accounts but different to the system. An ID number is what the PC uses and it will be a new one.

If the new account has sufficient rights, you can logon with it and "take ownership" of the folder(s) and you should be back in business.

Oddly enough, an account that cannot see a folder contents can take ownership of that same folder.
