When I reboot computer, and during detecting of Cd-roms and floppy drive, the detection process for the floppy continues with a steady light and sound. If I uninstall the floppy reboot all is fine till I reboot again, then the whole process begins again. I have done a chkdsk, and a virus scan, as well as Norton Systems Works with no problems being discovered. XP Pro..1.4 gig, 512 ram Compaq Presario.
    Thanks in advance,

Some options to try. Remember the floppy will have activity for a few seconds on boot as it is detected, but I guess yours is almost continuous? So...

Uninstall the floppy and remove it (unplug it from the M/B). Boot windows without it. Shutdown, plug it back in and let windows detect it. Reboot again and observe.

Place a floppy in the drive, wait till it stops or you may have to manually stop it. Reboot and see if it still happens. If no luck try rebooting with a blank disc in the drive, but the boot order may not allow this, and you may get an invalid System disc error on boot?

Check the boot order in the BIOS and if the floppy is the first boot change it to say 1st, C Drive (system drive) 2nd, CDROM 3rd, Floppy. (or don't include the floppy in ANY boot order).

Disable bootup floppy detect in the BIOS. Your floppy should work OK and normally doesn't need detecting on every boot.

    Try another floppy drive.

Let us know if anything worked (or didn't)
