I have Corel Draw 4 on floppy discs (don't groan)!!

I had it installed no problem on W.98 SE. Since formatting the hard drive and trying to re-install it, I get to Disc 11 and get a message "Cannot read the file...." and the whole setup is aborted

Are my worst fears realised that the disc is corrupted in some way? Any way it can be fixed?

    Thanks for any help:confused:

I'm a little late trying to submit a reply, but anyway....

I would try copying the data off the disk. Try not to run the disk if you don't need to, I expect it might make it worse (the surface may be starting to break down). I think I have seen floppy disk data retrieval programs, try www.majorgeeks.com. Something else I might look at is to run Scandisk on it (Accessories -> System Tools).

Don't dismiss that it may be a problem with the floppy drive, so try copying the data to a new disk in another computer.

the discs are really only scotch tape with the magnetic surface on it
The discs are aging as well
Insure that the cable to the diskette are on tight - both on the motherboard and on the diskette
Make sure that the cable has not been reversed at the diskette end
You can replace the diskette and or the cable

Thanks for replies Matt and Visionof.

I did copy the disc but get the same hang-up.
It's not the actual floppy drive as other floppies work.
Thanks for your input. I've given up on it, as they are several years old.

Hope to get a 2nd hand later version at the next Computer Fair!

    All the best to everyone.

    CorelDraw 5

    Wow thanks broni.

I downloaded it and installed it no worries on both my W98 and XP machine.

All is fine, except I can't get any of the Clipart for some reason.

Anyway, I replaced the corrupt file on the Disk 11 from the Corel 5 - which halted the installation of the Corel4, -and fortunately, the Corel4 is successfully installed once more - on W 98 -complete with Clipart. (Only problem now is I can't find the musical symbols, which I did have originally - they must be there somewhere!!):)

    Many thanks for your help.
