Just this morning, when I turned on machine, monitor showed a flicker that is very disturbing to the eyes. I run Windows XPSP2, with a Dell tube (not flat screen) 19" monitor. Flicker appears on any page except for the opening plain blue Dell page. Have tried pushing all sorts of buttons--no effect.
Appreciate comments, since this limits computer time.
    Thank you.

I suspect your refresh rate on the monitor has 'slipped' - flicker can generally be seen at <75 Hz .....

Right click a blank Area of the Desktop > Properties (or Control Panel > Display Properties) > Settings > Advanced > Monitor > Refresh Rate.

The opening Dell page is viewed under 'Dos' before Windows loads and is of low resolution.

Thank you so very much. Bingo! Thingy was set at 60. Upped it to 85. Presto! No more flicker.
To paraphrase General MacArthur: "I shall remember. "

    Hey Pete,

One of your Generals (Mark Clark?) also said ' I shall return'
In the interest of historical accuracy on the BBS :D - it was Douglas McArthur returning to the Phillipines.

    Regards - Charles

It was Douglas MacArthur, who was evacuated from the march of the captured US soldiers on Bataan in the Philippines, leaving General "Skinny" Wainwright in charge. Many of those soldiers died on the march or in captivity; Wainwright made it. But the correct wording was "I shall return!" and return he did, landing in almost knee-deep water from one of those landing crafts. It was probably in the Philipines.

funny thing about Doug wading ashore, my understanding from the history
channel, was that he waded ashore 3 or 4 times to make sure the cameraman
captured the best film shot available.

He was a Generals "General" tho! God, Honor, Country! (right sequence?).
