Am thinking of changing over to a flat screen but am confused as to dynamic versus analog interface. I understand the dynamic yields better performance but will my video card allow it. The video card is a Hercules Prophet 3D MX and my OS is WIN 98SE.

Is there really a large performance difference, do I need a new video card, etc.,etc, etc. any aid in helping me make an intellegent decision would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, let me give you my opinion:

I would only buy one with has a digital (not dynamic) interface. Usually referred to as DVI-I.

I don't know about your current video card, but it should be listed on the vendors Web site. If you have DVI-I, you should have 2 connectors, as currently you are running of the standard (analog) port....

    NOW, the monitor....

To be happy, and have a well performing monitor, look for this minimum specs:

    (White) luminance: > 200 cd/m2
    Contrast Ratio: > 300:1
    Response time: < 40 ms

The luminance of nearly all monitors will be fine. I myself would be looking at a contrast ratio as high as possible (400:1 or more) and a response time of around 30ms or less.

The response time is the time it takes for a single pixel to change from black to white and back to black again.

Some manufacturers will list the separate times too, referred to as rise and fall times. You would have to add both times to get to the total response time...

    Hope this helps.
