My friend recently converted his file system from FAT32 to NTFS. Now whenever he clicks on a program link in the start menu he gets a "flashlight" and windows message saying it is searching for the program. Is there a fix for this problem?

    Hello mojo,

The symptoms are that the shortcuts (.ink) are gone. The standard procedure is to reinstall the programs to their original folders to get them back. The NTFS complicates this, there may be a bigger problem - look at the Add/Remove panel, are programs still there? Taking one or two programs and creating a shortcut by right clicking on a exectable, do the programs run?

As an aside, if so inclined, this may be an opportunity to test programs running w/o reinstalling as per the question in this thread http://www.windowsbbs.com/showthread.php?t=34217

    Regards - Charles
