I'm going nuts with this little glitch. Here is my problem. I open Microsoft Word and then try to open a word document. The program hangs (flashing windows title bar) and it will not kick in again until I click on another open program...and then go back to Word. After that, I can open a file, work with Word, everything works just great. What a pain!! FYI, I am running Win98SE and also Office XP...I appreciate any and all helpful suggestions.

    Hi Icewine
Sorry your post slipped by. Were you able to resolve your problem? Did you try the repair feature? Perhaps try this:
Quit all instances of Word. If you use Word as your e-mail editor, be sure to quit Microsoft Outlook also.
Click Start, point to Find, and then click Files or Folders.
In the Named box, type Normal.dot.
In the Look in box, select your local hard disk (or an alternate user template location if you are running Word from a network server).
Click Find Now to search for the file.
For each occurrence of Normal.dot that appears in the Find dialog box, right-click the file, and then click Rename on the menu that appears. Type a new name for the file, such as OldNormal.dot or Normal-1.dot, and then press ENTER.
Close the Find dialog box. Restart Word normally (without using the /a switch).
If Word starts correctly, you have resolved the problem. In this case, the problem is a damaged Normal.dot template. You may need to change a few settings to restore your favorite options.

By any chance do you have TweakUi for Xp and have the option checked under GENERAL > FOCUS to flash the icon when something tries to steal focus? Just a thought... :)
