I am thinking of using IE (after years of Firefox and Chrome), but find the lack of an extension to block flash objects, but with a marker that lets me cliick if I want to view it, a showstopper.

Is there any such program/extension I can use? I have IE 9 now set up to warn me if flash tries to run, but if I disallow flash, I can't click on a link to view it; if I do allow flash on a site, ALL flash objects run, and annoy the tar out of me.

If you want IE and flashblock at the same time, I have found two decent options:

    1. Maxthon browser (which runs on the IE browser engine), which has an extension/add-on that blocks flash
    2. If you really have to use IE 9 (not sure about lower numbered versions), there isn't technically anything that does this--none of the addons will, from what I've seen. But IE9 does utilze what MS calls "tracking protection lists," which act like those old HOSTS files that folks use to have--that keeps your computer from calling on a particular site. Only these TPLs are (obviously) browser-specific. I installed one and I no longer saw those annoying flash ads on ESPN.com. If you want to go this route, I'd recommend the PrivacyChoice TPL - all companies TPL.

You can access this feature in IE9, by going to the Safety option, then clicking on Tracking Protection Lists. Somewhere there is an option to get more lists, and the one I've given you works better than another one I tried.
