I debated whether to post this in the Other Software forum or here and I think this forum seems more appropriate.

I am trying to remove the C:\WINDOWS\System32\Macromed\Flash\Flash8a.ocx ActiveX Control file from my computer.

I get the following error window whenever I try to delete it via Windows Explorer:

I have already uninstalled Macromedia's Flash Player and Shockwave Player via Add/Remove Programs and I already deleted all other files in my C:\WINDOWS\System32\Macromed\Flash\ folder.

I normally use my computer as a user with adminstrative rights. I have tried removing the file's read-only attribute without success (access denied). I have tried deleting the file via safe mode (from my administrative user account and also via Administrator) without success. I have tried using Killbox to delete the file (even on reboot, even via safe-mode) without success. I opened the flash8a.ocx file in Dependency Walker but I don't know how to interpret the information (if it can even be useful).

I Googled "Cannot delete flash8a: Access is denied. " and got only one result which doesn't appear to directly apply to my issue.

I wish I could figure out exactly what in my computer is keeping a stranglehold on the Flash8a.ocx file.

    Any ideas?

    Resolved

I read the long thread linked via my Google search result mentioned above and downloaded Adobe's Flash Player uninstaller from http://www.adobe.com/go/tn_14157.

Then I immediately ran the uninstaller (after closing my Firefox browser) and the stubborn Flash8a.ocx is now gone. :)
