I've been having some problems with installing the new flash player. When I get to the download page, it does the usual installation untill where its supposed to show the "install sucessful" box, it instead shows a little grey box up in the top left corner. I go to see if the software has even been installed, but nothing shows up in the add/remove program list. I could really use some help. Thanks.

CJones910--Just guessing. The Macromedia download site requires that ActiveX controls be allowed to run. The easiest way to do that is to put www.adobe.com into your Trusted Sites (uncheck the box at the bottom "Require Server Verification... ").
Also uncheck the box that wants you to download Yahoo Toolbar at the same time.

That sounds like the information bar. But just in case that doesn't work try this:

Go here and download the uninstaller for macromedia flash for your version:
    http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/knowledgebase/index.cfm?id=tn_14157
Run the program from its current location.

Go here and download the flash add-on:
    http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/
Now restart your browser and try to run flash again.

It doesn't work 100% of the time, but it seems around 90% of the time it does. If that doesn't work, I have another option, but it might be a little more difficult.

I am having the same trouble as the person that posted this. I have downloaded the uninstaller and removed any traces of it. When I try to install flash player the movie never shows up. After it installs all I get is " in the left hand corner of the screen where the movie is suppose to be playing. I am running the new IE 7 beta 3 and have followed all the tips on the Adobe page to try and get the program to download. So far nothing has worked. I am at wits end cause without Flash player I can not run my incredimail program. Please help if you can.

Have you tried to uninstall it from "add/remove" in control panel and downloading it again? most of the time when this issue is present its not in add/remove, but its worth a try.

    Try this:
Here's a link for the *2* un-installers by Adobe for Flash and Shockwave players...
    http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/alternates/

When you Uninstall the Macromedia, you need to go into your:

    C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application Data\Macromedia

PLUS, also remove from here: C:\WINDOWS\system32\Macromed

    Trouble installing Flash

If uninstalling and reinstalling, rebooting and scratching your head avails you nothing... Messing around with the uninstall for a while, I tried going to c:\WINDOWS\system32\Macromed and running the GetFlash.exe. Worked like a charm. GL - Filthy

I tried this method of using the uninstaller, manually deleting the folders and reinstalling and it worked like a charm! Thanks!

I tried going to c:\WINDOWS\system32\Macromed and running the GetFlash.exe and it acted like it installed it. Yet when I restarted my pc I am stil get this message when I go to youtube.com "Hello, you either have JavaScript turned off or an old version of Macromedia's Flash Player. Click here to get the latest flash player. "

I have tried unistalling it with the uninstaller and then tried to install it again and nothing changes. I am ready to scream.

Okay Skipslot I downloaded the program from the link you posted and I ran it after I closed out all windows I had open. After it ran I got this message...

    DllRegisterServer in c:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\Macromed\flash\flash9.0cx failed
    Return code was 0x80070005

Now what the heck do I do to fix that issue??

The repair attempted to re-register the DLL file which is connected to the flash program. May have to look on this page for a fix for the Regsvr32.exe that is closest to your problem.

Here's another site that may be of interests:
    http://www.cryer.co.uk/brian/windows/trbl_nt_rgsvrfld.htm

I have practically made a career out of messing around with the flash problem people have been having. What works for one doesn't seem to work for another. Macromedia must of really messed this one up because there is some intense issues here.

Okay the links you listed above suggested to run Regmon. I have downloaded that and unzipped it. It appears to be gathering all the register keys listed on the PC. However I have never played around in this area of my PC and do not know that I want to. I mean I do not want to mess something else up.
Is there an easy way to use the regmon program where it opens up the reg key you are looking for without listed all of them?

I have the same problem as described above. When I run the regmon, I get a 'Not Found' when regsvr32 attempts flash9.ocx. It's attempting an open key, and path for the key is HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Image File Execution Options\flash9.ocx. Looking in the register, the key is in fact not there.

Does this mean the install failed to place the key in the register where it should be?
    Thanks

Alright, I certainly understand that. Maybe the missing dll is indeed the problem.
Check the folder at C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application Data\Macromedia and here C:\WINDOWS\system32\Macromed. You could try deleting again the contents of them and try to redownload the flash again.

Adobe seems to think if you install the "full" version of the flash after you have uninstalled and attempted repair it will work:
    For IE:
    http://www.adobe.com/go/full_flashplayer_win_ie
    For Netscape compatible browsers:
    http://www.adobe.com/go/full_flashplayer_win

The only other thing I have is to go here and try some of their suggestions.

This is so frustrating. I really appreciate your help.

I tried deleting the files in C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application Data\Macromedia, but found there weren't any there under the Administrator. I did find flash files under the two user accts for the machine, so I deleted those (along with the files in system32/macromed). I then ran the uninstaller again, and did the full install. I get the same problem.

One thing I noticed - when I tried to uninstall the Adobe Flash 9 ActiveX entry using the 'Add or Remove Programs' options, I get a quick flash to the screen (like a command window coming up) that immediately goes away. The flash 9 activex is still there.

    Found this info here:
    http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/knowledgebase/index.cfm?id=tn_14157
If you have any instances of the player open in your web browsers, instant messaging clients, stand-alone SWFs or projectors, for example, the uninstaller will complete but some files may not be deleted. If this occurs, you may close all your applications and run the uninstaller again to ensure all files are removed. Note: If you have a Windows Flash Player uninstaller downloaded prior to May 11, 2006 on your desktop, please delete it and download the latest version. The uninstaller has been updated to address Windows permission issues.

    Latest flash player 8 uninstaller:
    http://download.macromedia.com/pub/flashplayer/current/uninstall_flash_player.exe
    I can't find a flash 9 uninstaller.

Save the file to your system, choosing a location where you can find it (for example, your Desktop). Quit ALL running applications, including all Internet Explorer or other browser windows, AOL Instant Messenger, Yahoo Messenger, MSN Messenger or other Messengers. Check the Windows system tray carefully to make certain no applications which might possibly use Flash Player are still in memory.
Run the uninstaller. This will uninstall Adobe Flash Player from all browsers on the system.
I'm wondering if running this uninstaller in safe mode would prove more effective? Then installing the flash again.

There's also previous versions of the flash program here:
    http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/knowledgebase/index.cfm?id=tn_14266
If you try this, I wouldn't install version 8, because this is when most of these problems started.

Also read over this page, Emerging Issues with Flash 9:
    http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/knowledgebase/index.cfm?id=4a8d52ae
If you are getting the quotation marks error there is a registry hack you have to do.

    Latest version of Flash:
    http://www.adobe.com/go/getFlashPlayer

I know it seems like we are going around in circles, but maybe its not working because you have an instance of the flash running, which is why I think safe mode might be a good option here.

OK - tried safe mode to uninstall and then install. Same results.

I'm going to take another long look at this tonight - one last try.

    Thanks
