I am trying to unistall my macromedia flash player but it will not let me erase this file as it is currently in use. I tried looking in the task manager however it is not listed as flash.ocx

Does anybody know which file it could be.

Secondly, how can I tell what all the system files actually do in the processes tab. In previous versions of windows I would shut down everything except explorer and systray but I constantly have around 20 processes running in xp.

    any info would be appreciated

ps I had all my browsers closed when I was trying to delete the file as well.

Lots of information on manually uinstalling Flash on this page as well as links to download an uninstaller.

An alphabetical list of processes and their descriptions can be found on this site.

A lot of the processes running in XP are due to various services running, a number of which are unnecessary for most people. For a list of those services and which can be safely turned off, I recommend Black Viper's site. Going through that list is a little tedious but well worth it in terms of system performance and online security.
