I purchased some flash drives from Costco. I saved some information from my desk top computer which uses WindowsXP.I then went to transfer it to my laptop which uses Windows7.
The laptop shows the flash drive is blank but when I look at it in my Windiws XP it shows the files on the flash drive. I note on the back of the flash drive package that windows 7 is not mentioned as a system.
Is this noraml. I guess I assumed the systems were compatible.

    Strange!
Flash drives are either formatted using FAT or FAT32. Both work with Windows 7. Try formatting the drive and using it again. If no joy, format it with Windows 7 and then use in XP. But it should wort either way.

There's also the possibility that the drive has proprietary flash drive software on it which doesn't run on Win 7. But I never heard of such a case.

I tried it again so the problem is real.I used another older flash drive and it did work. How would I go about formatting a drive to see if they work. Otherwise I will return them and buy soem newer ones.

    Thanks

Formatting will erase all data on the drive.
Stick the thumb drive in Win 7 computer.
Close out any dialogs that may automatically pop up, such as the Autoplay dialog that asks what you want to do.
Click Orb (Start) > Computer > right click the thumb drive icon > select Format.

Note: Always use the green "Safely remove hardware" (icon in the System Tray near the clock) to eject thumb drives. Never just remove it without safely ejecting it else the drive can become unreadable by one or another operating system.
