Someone asked me this the other day, and now I'm curious. How would you take your flash drive on a business trip, considering the fabulous TSA airline security system? We were joking in the office about how they look like little butane lighters, and how TSA would probably take it away from you at the security checkpoint in an airport. That led to wondering whether it would be better to send a flash drive through the x-ray in your pocket and then explain what it was, or whether it should be packed in a suitcase and sent through the much higher powered system that those pass through.

I'm sure it's been done many times, but what are their vulnerabilities?

There have been a ba-gillion flash drives sold. Very safe to assume that the TSA has seen at least one....Carry them where ever you'd like.

    Hi bently,

I've carried them with my carry on and never experienced any problems so far.

And TSA personnal do know what they are :)

    Regards - Charles

Been carrying a Lexar 1GB JumpDrive on my keychain for quite a while. It's suffered through being exposed to a daily dose of my magnetic money clip (in my pocket), both the clothes washer and dryer, grandbaby's drool, as well as TSA's X-Ray on numerous occasions. It continues to insist on working just fine. :) (The black paint [writing/logo] that was on it disappeared long ago though). :)

Well, that's certainly a fine recommendation. Anything that survives the laundry is probably impervious to almost anything!

I did leave it laying out on a coffee table on the covered, screened-in back porch for a week (last summer) just to make sure it was good and dry before I tried it.

Loaded Windows Explorer, crossed my fingers, plugged it in and "Whup, there it is ". :)
