Thank you.I'll try that. When I hook up the HD to another computer as a slave I get a warning to back up immediately S.M.A.R.T drive failure or something to that effect but the drive doesn't show up in window so backup is not possible

While I think on this it would be helpful to have some background to this situation and to know if there is data on the drive which is not backed up.

There is data which isn't backed up i don't think my wife ever backed it up. Problem started when moving harddrive to a different machine wouldn't boot there and returnedto original machine.
I've tried several ways to find the c: drive but no luck.
Can't find it when drive slaved to another computer. I've run out of ideas. I really though the fixbmr with parameters was going to do the trick

The Recovery Console will be unable to do anything if it does not see the drive.

When you switched the drive to the other computer did you use the same ribbon cable or another? If you used the same cable in all tests I would try another cable.

    Unfortunately they were different ribbons.

Have you checked the jumpers on the drive - now set as Master? (Preferable to Cable Select at present). Drive connected to the end of the ribbon cable?

As you were able to run the disk diagnostics the drive was clearly recognised - this makes me think that a Repair install of Windows might have a chance, although the fact that the Recovery Console failed to recognise the drive is not a good omen.

It will take a bit of work to give it a try - you will need to slipstream SP3 into your SP1 CD as detailed in the articles in post #2.

I was wondering that also so I double checked and tried it in two different places then went to the Samsung site. I'm pretty sure it's set right. I al;so tried changing the boot order in the bios.
