okay i like the firefox but i would like to decide myself which browser i want to use. face it lot of places dont work with the firefox like some music sites.

what happened was i made the firefox my default browser when i took it microsoft to get the plug-in, well it wants to stay the default. but i did manage to get the ie to be the default but only on its homepage ie msn and if i use favorites i can get around, but everything else is firefox. yahoo told me to go the ie,i laughed. if you only knew.

so how you i fix it where i can decide for myself which browser i want to use
right now they are both default and that cant be. as usual

I never heard of two different defaults. check in Firefox at Tools|Options|General| Default browser. box should be unchecked. Then you can exit, go to IE, making default.
Besides, even if Firefox is your default browser you can use anything you want, e.g. music sites like Yahoo launch or Napster which are too stubborn to admit the existance of anything more recent than NS7.1.

westside thanks for answering i did what you suggested unchecked on firefox doesnt make any difference the ie has msn and firefox has every thing else.
click on a favorite, its firefox that is the browser. come to think of it neither one of them (the ie or ff) are asking if i want it to be my browser! i suppose i could uncheck the ie too and see what happens. really

okay dont make any differance, they are both unchecked, same thing ie gets msn and ff everything else(except maybe music) and for some reason doesnt seem to think the navy is a trusted site( tropical storm delta) all i did was add that plug in (and made ff my default) maybe if i take it off well we can see, maybe.

anyone got any ideas about how to get it off (the plug-in )? i cant find it and i dont know where to look. its the latest thing i put on in connection with ff.

    really seriously

    Jan,
I, really, don't have any idea why you can't make the change. I am positive that it is the fact that you have MSN service.
If you have WinXP you should take a look at Start|set program access and defaults, which allows you to set defaults, and, I believe, override other settings.
I have no problem with Cox as ISP.

westside,i thank you for trying to help me with this problem. i have a Dell dimension e510 running windows xp media center 2002. i use Medicom as my cable internet with Bellsouth as my dial-up back-up. i was using msn as the ie homepage because i liked it just as i use google as the ffs homepage(which i think it is anyway) but personalized. i changed the ies homepage to bellsouth with no difference in the way the browsers work, neither ask if they are to be the default.

i can use the ie if and only if i click on it and stay on it by using favorites i can go about where i want to. but if i click on anything else on my desktop the ff comes up(being forgetful i have things on my desktop that i use daily, nat'l hurricane center) and there are certain sites that will offer the ie when you come on with the ie.

okay heres the bottom i want to chose which browser i use, and i cant not now. and enough is enough i am going to uninstall the ff then reinstall it and see if that elimanates the problem . let you know what happens.still :confuse and getting

well i uninstalled the firefox now i can not open anything on my desktop except my antis (anti virus, etc) i cant even open my windows live safety center! so i guess i have to take everything off of my desktop and start over again. this is ridiculous.
