firefox works, but IE doesn't

Just installed Verizon DSL. When I got to the last part of the software instillation it said, "can't connect, error code C2092EFD ".
After a while, I opened Mozilla Firefox, and I was connected! I registered and made a user name and password.
Now when I bootup, my computer tries to connect, but it says it can't. But it is connected when I open Firefox.
I used to have ATT dial up. It would open IE when I dialed. I could X out IE and open Firefox. I could use either browser I wanted to. I don't know why IE doesn't work on Verizon DSL? Verizon help is worthless.

try checking the dialing properties rules via
control
phone/modem

sometimes it is set as always connect with the old dialup properties set with your default browser IE ..

I uninstalled my old ISP's software and it seemed to work.
