    I have XP, SP3.

On an old post in 2008, rdpega asked:
When I open Firefox, I get an error page that says:
"Server not found - Firefox can't find the server at www.windowsbbs.com.
This same message appears with ANY webpage I attempt to load. But Internet Explorer is working fine. I called my ISP, and they suggested uninstalling Firefox & reinstalling, which I did, but no luck. I even turned off my firewall, but it didn't help either. "

Just now (17 April 2010) I have the same problem but a more up to date version of Firefox 3.6.3. I did what rdpega did. No luck.

Then DennisL provided an answer to rdpega's question:
    "Check settings in ....
    Preferences | Advance | Network | Settings
Select Direct Connection to the Internet.
"OK" all the screens. Close / reload Firefox. "

Here's the problem: this advice obviously worked on that version of Firefox but now that option cannot be found. I searched elsewhere and could not find a way of getting Firefox to start.

This path does not exist in Firefox, and I don't think it ever did. It was for Netscape, Mozilla or Seamonkey.
The path for Firefox is: on Menu (top row) Bar: Tools|Options|Advanced | Network | on the top line of "connection, click on Settings button. I have the default "No proxy" checked, unless your ISP demands a proxy. If this does nothing, make sure that you check the above suggestion. It is possible that, you, accidentally clicked on Work Offline.

Thank you Goddez and thank you Westside for your suggestions.
I apologise for the delay in replying - I couldn't get onto the computer with the problem.

I have tracked this through, checked that Offline wasn't selected and set the No Proxy option. Now it's working.

Thank you. So this one is Resolved.
