Is there a simple way or any way to save the Profile in FF?

Right now it appears I have a huge problem with my PC and am probably going to have to restore it to its original state which should be a horrible experience.

I want to save my Passwords but don't know how. I was going to print them off with my PrintScreen program but the printers aren't available in Safe Mode.

Try MOzBackup - It saves passwords and anything else you would want.

I have used it for over a year now and like it and easy to use.

You can also find the actual profile in your FF directory and back it up elsewhere and then restore after you reinstall FF.

Look in application directory for your user name then choose Mozilla, Firefox, & Profiles. Then choose the one that has "default" at the end. Will have letters and Numbers as the start of the profile. You can tell by the date that it is the one you want. You will see your bookmarks extensions etc. I believe passwords are in here also.

    Good Luck.

I have an external drive which backs up everything, except for hidden folders, whether unhidden or not. My backups are three times each week, so my external drive has trained me to copy the entire C:\Documents and Settings\user_name\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox folder, since I use more than one profile. The same goes for Thunderbird: C:\Documents and Settings\user_name\Application Data\Thunderbird. The folders are copied/pasted in a location which is acceptable to my external drive.
The passwords are in the file signons3.txt. The password are encrypted, by saving the file will do the job. You can copy the file, and pasted in the new profile. It depends on how you want to operate. Restoring the entire profile, or individual files in a new profile.

    Thanks.

I also back up all of my files to an external drive. I also save the Mozilla and Thunderbird folders. Plus I do a weekly backup but due to a malware issue I had deleted the backup in case it was infected. One mess led to another and I thought I had to do a complete restore to solve anything. I just wasn't sure what the steps were if I had to install FF and TB from scratch. I did download the MOZbackup and was going to use that if the time came.

But, after I worked in SafeMode and did the SFC scan, I lucked out. All is okay.

    Whew!!!

    jorjab,

When I back up the profile there are two options. Default and Portable. What's the difference? Do I click on "default" and then does it do the correct one?

I have FF2.0.0.16 and FF3.0.1 portable. If you have one of the two which are portable, you should save both. If you have only the portable program, you need to back up only the one you use. The other one would have been backed up before, and, not change.

Not sure I understand. I only use FF 3.0.1. So does that mean when using MozBackup and just do the default and not the portable?

I tried to find out on their site what portable really meant with no luck.

I don't understand, either. In first place, I don't use MozBackup. That may not matter, but why would you have two profiles. Where is the "portable ".
The path of my profile for 3.0.1 portable is:
C:\FFportable\FirefoxPortable\Data\profile. I create a FFportable folder for everything there. As you can see the profile is in the same folder as the .exe file, and not hidden as the default profiles is, unless you select a different location. If I had a "default profile, it would be in this kind of path:C:\Documents and Settings\user_name\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\default.xxxxx
If it does not ring any bells, you must have something which I have no knowledge of.

Well, I guess the simple fact is I don't have a "Portable" profile or I would certainly know it.

I suppose I will never totally understand FF capabilities concerning the profile business. I should just give up.

    Thanks.

    Vegaspat,

sorry just got the email re posting. I always use Default profile. Actually never noticed portable on my system which is a desktop. You would only choose another if you have created more then one profile and want to choose an alternate.

Try looking up profiles in help for FF. If you cant find out difference let me know and will get back to you. Have to leave for appt now.

What does this mean? I, really, don't care, but it was brought up in message #7. Anyway, "jorjab ", correctly said that the portable version FF works with USB drives. Such format of FF works also on a regular hard drive, where I tested first. Only after I saw that it worked, I got in my flash drive, for external use.
