I have been using Firefox for about a month. Today, a message box comes up asking me to select a profile, or create a new one. I cannot get into firefox without doing this. Why is this asking me this now?

    Hi Jeane,

Have you installed a newer version of Firefox? Have you moved your profile folder?

May be Firefox is having mental lapses, like Netscapes or Mozillas, and that's understandable because the two programs let you use any profile which is laying arouund, but Firefox will tell you to create one, if not compatible.
You can test this, if nothing was changed, by using this But, start first by typing -p in the Target line. That will bring up the profile manager. If there is more than one profile, you can select the correct one. If there is only one profile, there is something fishy.
    Which version do you have.

    Profile Manager when starting Firefox

Believe it or not, it just happened to me, too.

I had been using FF, then closed it. When I clicked on a link in an email to open FF again, I got the Profile Manager. Even after deleting the old profile (but not the folder or files) and creating a new one with the same name in the same location (which has always worked before) I still got the PM. Logging off and back on resolved the "problem ", but I don't know what caused it in the first place.

I'm still using the 12-15-04 build of 1.0+, because the PrefBar extension doesn't work (for me) on any build after that.

I would never believe that a nightly is going to work flawlessly. FF1.0 final works fine, and it is of 11-7. The more advanced builds are based on Moz1.8a6 nightlies. They go through the motions of installing extentions, but they don't.
If you look at the User Agent, it should tell you on which Mozilla version it is based.

I'm not sure if this has anything to do with it, but when I updated my Acrobat Reader and restarted my computer, the problem was solved. Maybe I just needed a restart to clean out some files.

    Thanks all,

    Jeane

Empty Cache. I updated the reader yesterday, and it gave me no problem.
I don't know how it would affect FF, though.
