    Hi, I'm a new user to firefox (IE7 just became toooo clunky so I thought I'd give it a go and I like it!) but there's something that IE does that FF seems not to.

    When I go into a website (e.g. ebay) and search for something (e.g. "DVD "), so long as FF stays open, then "DVD" appears in that field as a 'drop list' item. If I then close FF and restart it, it doesn't remember the "DVD ".

    I've been into 'tools-options-Privacy' and asked it to remember just about everything on the page but to no avail. Is there another setting somewhere?

    Thanks

    K

    I have a check mark to "always clear Private Data" in tools-options-Privacy, and I have selected to clear only Cache and Download History, in the Settings (button). I keep my History for 3 days.

    Thanks for the suggestion. Didn't seem to help, unfortunately.

    Use a larger number for "Remember visited pages" and see if that helps.

    I think that is an issue with FF2.x. FF3.0, although at an early alpha stage has no problem with this. Do you see anything History? I, certainly do, although there is nothing in the dropdown.
    Flock, which I am using now, and is at the same level as FF2.0.0.13, keeps that info elsewhere, in My World|Favorite Sites.

    When you've entered something inot a field (try going to ebay and searching for "DVD ") and you come back to the same screen and click in the same field and press the 'down' arrow on the keyboard, a list appears with your previous entries for that field. Internet explorer calls it 'Auto-complete' but FF only remembers the list while FF is open. Close FF, restart it and go back to the same page/field and the list has been forgotten.

    OK, Now I see what you are talking about...:eek:
    Take a look in about:config, filter on:

    browser.formfill.enable = true

    EDIT - Minor correction......

    default set in:

    :\Program Directory\..........\defaults\pref\firefox.js

    Defined in:

    \Program Directory..........\chrome\browser.jar\content\browser\preferences\privacy.js

    * browser.formfill.enable
    * - true if entries in forms and the search bar should be saved, false
    * otherwise

    what does yours say ?

    in :\Program Directory\..........\defaults\pref\firefox.js

    pref( "browser.formfill.enable ", true);

    in :\Program Directory..........\chrome\browser.jar\content\browser\preferences\privacy. js

    Can't open 'browser.jar', it says it's a "invalid or corrupt jarfile "

    .jar files are .zip files, and, you should not try to open them like other files.
    In my experience, Firefox2.x is not as good at remembering formfill. It may or may not do it. And, for security's sake I don't use formfill.

    Sorry for any confusion.

    1. In the location bar, enter "about:config" (without quotes)
    2. when in the config editor, filter on:
    browser.formfill.enable
    3. entry should be:
    Status = default
    Value = true

    What does yours say.?

    Also check in the:Tools|Options|Privacy|Private Data|Settings - and verify that:
    Saved Form Information is NOT selected.

    Then check "about:config" - filter on:
    privacy.item.formdata

    Verify that it is:
    ( bold entry)
    Preference name = privacy.item.formdata
    Status = user set
    Value = false

    Please post back - thanks
