Apparently Firefox (1.0.7) and the latest update to ZoneAlarm dont mesh to
well togeather. Mozilla doesnt seem to be effected tho (so far).

Everything was going great with firefox before the update (to ZA). Now pages
with images require multiple ReLoad attempts and may never get it all loaded.

Checking the ZA forum, other users are having problems also, some getting
    the dreaded BSOD.

As an example, this page: http://www.moviepalace.net/ will load fine in Mozilla
but needs at least 5 attempts at a ReLoad in firefox (never have got it to
    reload completely).

I can only guess that the ZA update changed some settings for Firefox but
looking at both Moz and FF i have the same settings.

I only have 2 extensions in FF - Prefbar 3.1.0 and FasterFox. Both were
    present before the update.

Anyone else having this problem or possible suggestions for a fix?
    Thanks,

I have been using Zone Alarm 6.0.667 since Sep.13. 2005. Is this a new version?
I have just seen that there is v.6.1.737. I just downloaded it. We will see.

    Check this
. It is worse than you reported.
    Thanks.

    Westside,

Yes, i looked at their forum before i posted. This is the second update they
have released that messed things up. They are getting to "Control happy"
for me. To many bells and whistles to get a handle on and to hard to set
    up/maintain.
One big problem is that they monitor every program on your system, even
those that have nothing to do with the internet. Hardest part for me is trying
to figure out what all the settings should be. Then cookies and mobile
code(?) is thrown into the pot, etc, etc, etc.

A program that keeps the bad stuff out would suffice but guess theres not
    enough money in that.

Let me know how it works for you.....

    You're describing the Pro version.

Sounds like the free version - more or less a straight firewall and which has had far fewer problems, is what you want to run.

Yes it must be just the Pro version of Zone Alarm because I updated yesterday(free version) and I don't have any trouble with any of the links above

Yes, I think your right. I'll get the free version and install it.

I removed the pro version according to instructions and re-installed the
previous version but it is giving me errors on some dll's. While the uninstall
appears to have worked, the reinstall does show the previous version number,
it is messing up so i dont know if its working or not, specially the error seems
to be in the antivirus area.

    Off to get the freeby.

    Thanks,
    savagcl

FF 1.0.7 and using Sygate Personal Firewall renders your link very fast and completely. Sygate is free and unobtrusive.

I installed the free version of ZA. The install stopped responding, forcing a
sys reboot but after that it let me configure it so we'll see. Pages appear to
    be loading OK now.

I also got the sygate freeby, but not installed yet. Will hold it for a couple days
    and see what happens......

    thanks,

    Hi Clif,

One consideration with Sygate free - Symantec bought them and there will be no more upgrades to Sygate. The last version is 5.6, I use 5.5 - the difference is that XP security center recognizes 5.6, while not recognizing 5.5 or less. Obviously I don't consider that important.

Sygate free is a great firewall, use it on one of my Installations. Its both app based and does have advanced rule making - block/limit/permit by IP/port/type. The logging capability that this program has is IMO one of best, if not the best.

EDIT: http://207.33.111.31/spf/ is the download for all the versions. I use 5.5 bld 2710.

BTW, anyone reading this, the forum site and any support ends as of today. There are unofficial support sites.

I was referring to the free ZA. I am not sure what the reports were all about, but I may give it a shot. The first ZA v.6.0 had all sorts of problems. Eventually, it became necessary to do a clean install. I had a problem with ZA v3, which shut me out of my internet connection. fortunately, my ISP tech people were aware of the problem, and they bailed me out. So, I used Sygate, which I thought was great, but it rolled over and died once a week. By then, ZA came out with a reliable version, and I stuck with them, ever since, with no problem.
I checked the Zone Alarm users group , and found out that there are a lot of problem with the free version. I am giving just an example, but there are more, and with different problems.

Using ZA Free, 6.0667.000. No problems from the start. The test page works quite well.

I've been running ZA free version 6.1.737.000 for the past week, and I haven't noticed any new issues with Firefox (or with anything else, for that matter). I've been having problems with Firefox freezing up on me sometimes, but that's been happening for the past month at least, so it's definitely not new to the current version of ZA. Clif's moviepalace page loads just fine for me.
Just browsed through some of the postings at the ZA user forum referenced by Westside, and I'm realizing that I may be having more ZA problems than I realized. Ever since switching to a DSL connection a couple of months ago, I've noticed that if I'm not actually using the internet for a while, I seem to "lose" my connection. The modem indicates everything is still active, but I can't get my mail to download, and I can't access any websites. As soon as I reboot, the internet connection is okay again.
I'm kind of tempted to download one of the 5.5 versions of ZA free and see if it makes any difference on my computer - when I get chunk of time later this week, I may try that.

No problems here with ZA free 6.1.737.000 and FF 1.5rc3. Clif's Movie Palace page loads instantly and completely.

    Rebecca,
as it is usually the case with things like this, some people are affected, and some are not, and some, like you, are affected and don't know how.
That is why I never install any programs which have given problems, until I visit the newsgroup. There are, literally, hundreds of people who reported some type of problem. But, what percentage is reall affected? I am not interested in finding out if I am affected or not.
6.0.677 works fine for me, but, from what I gathered it is very hard to remove one version. The only time that I had a problem, I had to remove some over 100 leftovers, which, actually, prevented the installation of another version. I just don't trust them.

Prudence is the better part of valor.

Well, so far, no problems with the free version (6.1.737.000) and it dont have
all the ash and trash to mess things up.

The Pro and suite seem to be having all the problems, I really believe its due to
all the different settings required and the variations therein. As stated: works
for some, not for others (but different problems). Kinda reminds me of
Symantec as in taking over your system.......

Biggest complaint: Install a program, run it, and look in ZA, there it is, listed
with all it components. This, regardless of weather or not it uses the internet!

Ah, well, Thanks for all the help!

I didn't go back and try installing an earlier version of ZA free after all, because I found instructions in another thread (http://windowsbbs.com/showthread.php?t=49858) that solved the internet access problems I was having with ZA.
So for me now, ZA free 6.1.737.000 and FireFox 1.5 work fine together.

Still using ZA free 5.5.094.0 and I've no intentions of upgrading. Why bother? I've gone to the sites that check your security and I'm in complete stealth. Besides, we're behind a NAT router and as far as I can see, we're about as safe as we're going to be.
