    Hello all!

I migrated from IE to FF a few weeks ago and there is one thing that annoys me in FF.

When composing a message (like this one) in IE, the mouse wheel scrolls like this:

    - the mouse pointer at the top of the page - scrolls the page down

    - when the "composing window" is reached, it scrolls the contents to the end and then continues to scroll the whole page.

In FF I have to click outside and inside the "composing window" in order to scroll the whole page and the contents of the "composing window" respectively.

I have not found a setting in FF to get the behaviour of IE. Is there one?

    Thanks for Your time,
    Christer

I think that's called changing the focus as the cursor passes over a window. It's old technology and was available in windows almost from the beginning, but no more. I found it a nuisance and always turned it off - one had to be very careful to avoid typing something into the wrong place. I don't use iexplore.exe so I'm used to the absence of that 'feature'. You'll get used to it, too. :D

    Sparrow,
thanks for the explanation. I, surely, had no idea of what it was all about. But, my usage of IE has been so limited, in the past five years, that I would have never known that there would be any other way.

Then, we aren't talking about the same thing because it's still there ...... ;) ...... in my computer at least.

The location of the curser doesn't change, only what the mouse pointer "grabs" when using the scroll wheel.

In IE, the pointer "grabs" whichever part of the page that it hovers over, inside the window scrolls the text within it, outside the window scrolls the webpage.

In FF, the pointer doesn't "grab" outside the window to scroll the webpage unless I click outside the window and that is moving the curser.

No, I won't ...... :( ...... and it may actually deter me from using FF.

    Christer

    Edited:

Another annoyance is that the text in the window is scrolled to the top when I add a quote or a smiley at the bottom, like now ...... ...... but it returns to the correct position when I continue typing.

    Christer ...

That behavior sounds like what's referred to as "X-Mouse" and, although you may like it, I don't. I don't want the mouse pointer changing "focus" by itself.

In any event, it's controlled by a setting in either of the two TweakUIs, Arie's Tweaking Toolbox, or any of a number of other tweaking programs but, if you already have it turned on, and it doesn't work in FF, I doubt if it will.

Unless, of course, someone has written an extension to permit it. Check here for virtually every FF extension ever written. Good luck! :D

    Jim,
it's not a thing that I have turned on or setting that I have changed. It just works that way in IE with my Logitech mouse. The "absence" of that "feature" in FF is probably due to programming differences between IE and FF and has nothing to do with WinXP. I know that IE is very integrated into XP but if it was a XP "setting ", then it would work in both IE and FF.

When I stop posting in this forum ...... ...... You all know that I went back to IE ...... ;) ...... !

Referring to the OS, not iexplore. I guess you pays your money and takes your choice. It's simple to program; just pass your cursor over my name to see how a program can tell where the cursor is.

    Wow!

I just tried this in IE, to see exactly what Christer was talking about, and I found it to be extremely annoying! I suppose one can get used to anything, though, since Christer seems to like it. As the old saying goes, "One man's meat is another man's poison ". :D

No, more like "One man's trash is another man's treasure" (or vice versa, in this case). :D

I don't know if it is a mouse behavior or what, but I use the Microsoft optical mouse, and there is an extention which allows me to use it in any of the gecko browsers. I use TweakUI for WinXP, which has an X-Mouse entry. so, it seems to require activation, which I don't get unless I select it, in IE or FF.
So, it is amusing that I am using Microsoft software which does not change the IE settings by default, unless I miss the issue completely.
