Sometimes when I want to view something in IE7, I open IE and type a web address in the URL box. Strangely, FF 3.01 opens and I see the website in FF rather than IE. How do I prevent this from happening without assigning IE as the default browser?

I wish that would happen to me! I will have to test this. Does it happen only when you type the address, or also when you copy/paste an URL.
To me, IE7 is a necessary evil, which I, never, open intentionally. Only when a website is hard-coded to do that, or when I want to check on behavior of websites, and I don't want to take advantage of IE Tab.

    Westside,
I want to view the page in IE7 but the page opens in FF no matter how I put the address in the URL box of IE7! I do not want that to happen!

I understood what you said. That's why I asked how you were entering the address. If this were the case, if I used FF2.0.0.16, then 3.0.1 which is default, would happen. By the way, is this happening with any URL.
How are your default settings? I use Custom settings. Everything is respected, except that if Flock is uninstalled, defaults will go to IE7.

As a test, I logging in, to this site, with IE7. I, just typed in :windowsbbs.com, and took it from there. The page opens in IE7. If you have an issue with a particular URL, let me know. I may test it.
I have no idea why you have that problem. My Tools|Internet options are default.
Until someone else comes out with a better answer, use IE Tab, if you want to view the page like in IE
