I'm running firefox 3.0.16 and in the address bar where you type in the URL's, when I click the down arrow at the far right and a list of URL's comes up. How do I clear that? I've looked in all the taps in the option menu (I have all the boxes in the clear private data window checked, but I still have URL's in the drop down menu of the address bar). I hit the delete button and they delete, but when I look at the drop down arrow again they're all back again.

Go to 'Tools' > 'Options' > 'Privacy' > and change the 'Location Bar' setting to Nothing.

It is ok if you want nothing in the dropdown. And the contents of a partly written post disappeared. Selecting Bookmarks cuts down to a more reasonable number of addresses. It seems to be a poor feature, but I can get everything back if I change to the previous settings. So, nothing has gone away, except to the eye (no return of the partly written message).

What is OK Westside? Your answer doesn't make sense.
Swedeman just wanted the address bar cleared, who mentioned partly written posts?

Roger, went to "Tools- privacy" but there isn't any mention of "location bar" there. Is that in the 3.5 version of Firefox?

Correct, it's only in versions 3.5.x.

To disable the "smart locations" in earlier versions of Firefox do:

In the address field of Firefox 3.0.x, type about:config, then press Enter.
In the filter field, type browser.urlbar.
Click on the line with browser.urlbar.matchBehavior, change the value to 0 (zero).
Click on the line with browser.urlbar.maxRichResults, change the value to 0 (zero).
Quit Firefox and open it again.

If you want it to behave like Firefox 2.0 then do:

In the address field of Firefox 3.0, type about:config, then press Enter.
In the filter field, type browser.urlbar.
Double click on the line with browser.urlbar.matchOnlytyped, the value will automatically change to true.
Quit Firefox and open it again.

Sorry about that Swedeman, I tend to forget that not everybody updates FF as soon as possible.

Thanks TonyT, that worked. Also thank you Roger, you meant well and wanted to help me, I appreciate the effort. I tried 3.5.x, but prefer 3.0.16 instead.

What I said applies to clearing the address bar. I mentioned partly written posts. It was an observation on my part, no more nor less.
As for the ok part, I meant if you want to remove to remove everything from the dropdown.
I was observing as I was testing, and, apparently, I did not know that I had to spell out every part of my reply..
