I had a TOTAL computer crash and lost everything. So much for Vista.

I forgot the detailed explanation for installing Add-ons to Firefox and really can't make heads or tails of the instructions on the web.

    Thanks.

The installation is very easy. You need to have an installed, and operational Firefox, and the downloaded .xpi files of the Add-ons (also called extentions), or a location where you can get the add-ons installed. The latter may be from pages suggesting the favorite add-ons, or the Mozilla page .
I prefer to download the .xpi file files, and save them. (right click on the button, to get the add-on|save link as). If the add-on has been downloaded (usually on the Desktop. Open your Tools|Add-ons manager, then minimize the program, now you will have a small window to drag and drop your file. If compatible, you will get Firefox to accept your add-on. You can drag and drop as many add-ons as you want, but you will have to restart Firefox, for them to become usable.
You will have to go back into Tools|Add-ons, and customize them, selecting the options button. In some cases, you will be prompted to do something, as you reopen Firefox ( by the way the drag and drop does not remove the file from the downloaded location).
Anyway, it will take a lot less time to do what you want, than read this.

    Westside,

I guess I spoke too soon. The two tabs that I installed were the IE tab and the GetMail tab, both of which I really liked.

I have them both on the Tool bar (icons) but today when I went to use them they don't function. IE doesn't work at all and the Get Mail will only bring up the Compose window. It won't flip me over to my mailbox.

    Do you have any suggestions?

    Thanks.

If you installed IE Tab, it should be listed in your add-ons, and in Tools|IE Tab Options. The most recent is v.1.33.x, which I have, and, it works fine. Do a mouseover the icon to see if you got it right There are three choices, when I place my mouse over the icon..
As for the Get Mail button, and you can get Tools|Get Mail, as well. I have had, in two cases, problems with Get Mail v.2.54, like you describe. I am using v.3.0 Plus, which allows one to select the path to any mail client. I am using Thunderbird as my default mail, and, it comes automatically with it. It does not recognize multiple profiles, so I let it to it to bring up the proper mail. Look at the Get Mail site for info.

Where did you get version 3 of Get Mail. I looked in several places but couldn't find it.

I was trying to add some themes to Thunderbird. I chose a theme, right clicked and saved it to my hard drive. Then I opened the Add-On tab and when I went to drag it I noticed it was not a "jar" but hmtl. Only one of the 4 that I tried to install had a jar extension.

It stated that it was compatible with TB so once again what am I doing wrong?

Can you tell me which Themes that was? Always look for a .xpi (add-ons) or .jar file (Themes). I, always, look for that.
Anyway, if you go to the Themes, and right click on the name, you will get a .htm file (just like saving a link), You have to left click on the name, to get a full description of the Theme. Then scroll down to the green "Download "|right click|Save as, anmd you will get a .jar file. I tested each of the new ones, and got a .jar file this way, and a .htm by just clicking on the name.

I was right clicking on the NAME instead of the download link. Duh!!

    Sorry.

After I read your message I went back and carefully looked at what I was doing and from there I was able to add the themes correctly.

    Thanks.

Well, I did that more than once. In fact, I did it a couple of times, while I was testing the available Themes!
