Will be bringing up a new computer next week.
With Firefox 3 Final just around the corner, I would prefer to install current beta 4 as default browser ... Does anyone foresee any real problems??

    Thanks

    Hi Dennis,

FF 3 beta 5 is out, and it looks pretty good. You might want to consider it, instead. Lots of extensions actually work with it, too.

    Jim,
I tried your link, and it gave me the customary popup, but the Save button is grayed out. So, nothing happens. Where did you get that link? At mozillazine.org? Did you uninstall beta4?, before installing beta5?

    Westside ...

I downloaded it from the "Windows" link in "(here are the US English downloads for Windows, Mac and Linux)" on this ZDNet page.
Using FF 2.0.0.13, I was able to download FF 3 beta 5 two different ways using the link in my previous post. By right-clicking on the link and selecting Save Link As, FF's standard download manager opened, and the Save button was active.

The other way was by using "GetRight ", the download manager I've used for as long as I've been using Windows, in conjunction with the FF "FlashGot" extension.

No problem either way, and I didn't have beta 4 installed.

    Jim,
I'll be darned! I tried three times, and I got an inactive Save button. After the third time, for no good reason I left clicked on the popup, probably on the Save button, and the button became active. I never saw anything like it.
    Thanks.

I installed it, and, immediately I saw that its security features would be a pain. Only three (Nightly Tester Tools, McAfee Site Advisor, and IE Tab were compatible. Six other add-ons were not compatible. Roboform could be neither uninstalled nor disabled. Since Nightly Tester Tools was ok, I was able to make four other add-ons compatible (Media Player Connectivity, Mr Tech Local Install (not needed, really), Get Mail, and Forecastfox). The Prefbar v.3.3.4 was not compatible, nor could be use (all the Options had gone blank).
I had the same problem with Seamonkey2.0a1pre, and was in contact with the add-on author. He found something in the UI which prevented a proper installation. However the 3-29 build worked fine.
This build is of 3-26, and, it probably has the same problems as Seamonkey2.0a1pre, which has the same add-on manager. For me the Prefbar is very valuable, so I am a bit disappointed, but this beta is, surely, fast!

Thank you so much for the updates / information. Will go with the latest release ... as I didn't hear any concerns of stability. Extension are always the slow boat. I prefer to create / start with a new profile when Firefox moves to a new version release. I don't think I'm going to import my bookmarks, it's getting very large, poorly organized .. I think it started life as Netscape / Mozilla.
    Thanks guys. :)

I am using the same profile which I used for Firefox1.5.x. I has been no problem going from one beta to the next. My bookmarks have been organized in folders long ago. Basically, they are the same in all my browsers, but I use different Tabs to open my favorite sites. Considering that several Tabs are detrimental, I limit myself to 4, which are almost all different.
As for speed, this build is the fastest I ever saw, even with the add-ons, and it weighs in at 56MB vs 71 of FF 2.0.0.13.
beta4 has been very stable, and beta5 is the same. But, for me it has regressed, a bit.
I don't like the fact that it stole default, without asking me, the first time around, and, of course finding that about half the add-ons which worked in beta4, don't in beta5
