Firefox 3.01 always opens when I want to use IE7

I am upset about FF3 opening ALL the time when I want to use IE7 exclusively. I never had this problem with any previous version of FF. Is there some way to prevent this, other than designating IE7 as the default browser??
The developers of FF should be made aware of this problem because this transfer to FF when I want to open a window in IE7 is very annoying and irritating.
As an example, I opened IE7 and wanted to run Windows Update. Lo and behold, FF opens and starts Windows update. This should not happen and the FF developers should fix it. They clearly did something in FF3 to make this happen, because it did not happen with previous versions.

 

Could this problem be related to my using IE Tab with FF3? If so, I will uninstall it to prevent this behavior!

 

Could be, This extension basically uses FF with IE engine. Should not be a problem in my view as only frontend is FF, the engines is IE.

 

I have IE Tab, and the IE engine will not open unless I select it. My IE Tab icon is on the top toolbar, and if it show the IE explorer icon, it uses the Firefox engine. The bottom toolbar shows the Firefox icon, which is indicative of the engine being used. But, if you have Options|IE Tab|Site filters enabled, you will switch, automatically, to the IE engine. IE Tab did not use to do this, but it is now. In conclusion if you prefer to use IE, open it, and use it. If you start from a link or whatever, disable the site filters. You don't have to uninstall IE Tab.
Just look at its properties.

 

I don't think you folks understand my problem.
Here is an example. FF3 is closed. I open IE7, type in a URL and hit return. The page opens in FF3, NOT IE7. I don't want this to happen. If I open IE7, I want the subsequent pages to open in IE7 not FF3. Otherwise I would have opened FF3. to start with. I will try to adjust the filters in FF3 and see if that can fix this problem.

 

Disable IETab and see if that changes the behavior.

 

I understand your problem. I don't think that you understand my proposed solution, or you are not explaining the situation. You give the example of Windows Updates, and explained why, but overall, you seem to indicate that whenever you try to open any page, you have that behavior. If this is the case, it is a serious problem.
FF3.0.1 is my default, but it will not open if IE7 is open. Yesterday, I went into Windows Updates, and IE7 did its thing. As JD said, disable the add-on, and see what happens.

 

I removed IE Tab and still had the same behavior. When I opened IE7 to download MS monthly updates, the update site opened in FF3.01 and I was not able to download the updates, along with a warning that I had to use IE to do so. This was before I removed IE Tab. Switching to IE using the tab did not help at all. I then removed IE Tab.
I finally designated IE7 as the default browser and I was able to download the updates.
I really think the developers for FF3 should be notified of this very inconvenient problem. I never had it with any previous version of FF and something has been changed so that if FF is the default browser, then opening windows in IE7 cause FF to open and intercept the IE window. Not good that FF is hogging all the sites.

 

It is your problem, and not mine. And, this is the first time I heard of the problem. So, how do you deal with this?
Just a few minutes ago, I had to go to IE, because of some issues which I had with Windows Updates. IE opened true, and was able to send a report to Microsoft.

I may be lucky, but, did you do a search to see if anyone else had your problem? Did you try to right click on the IE shortcut, and select Open|explorer.exe? Is it possible that the problem lies with IE?

FF3.01 just came out, so it is not likely that this problem has been around for some time. As I mentioned, it is only this version which has caused this problem. I did send an email to the FF developers to look at this thread. Maybe they will. In any case, I have designated IE7 as my default browser and that has solved the problem temporarily.
If someone looking at BBS had this problem, I'm sure they would have responded to my inquiry.

I have been running FF 3.0.1 since it came out and do not have this "problem ".

I would be inclined to look for spyware or perhaps one of those "toolbars ". An uninstall and fresh install of Firefox might also be interesting.
