On another list I found this complaint abaout the inability to connect to one of the principal British online banks. Can anyone comment?

    Quote:

I have used FF for some time as my default browser through various of the 0.
releases and was able to access my online banking with Barclays with no
difficulty at all. Now that 1.0 is installed I can't access the bank any
more - the Alert message informs me that 'Firefox and Barclays cannot
communicate securely because they have no common encryption algorithms'.

That seems to be a backward step and a glaring omission.

    Endquote.

    Labarum,

I remember having this problem a couple times when upgrading Netscape browsers. What I found out is that it takes a little time for the banks to recognize the newer browsers. Give it a couple weeks and see if you can get in then. You could always call the bank and notify them of the problem.

It is the bank, not Firefox, as Minnesota Mike pointed out. Some banks are more stubborn than others.

    Labarum,

Some steps you can take in order to get the Bank's attention:

    1. Let the Bank know that you can no longer do online Banking using Firefox 1.0
    2. Vote for Bug#264466
    3. File a Tech-Evangalism Report

Hopefully all three will help make the Bank aware of the problem, and do what it can to bring the software up to date. They won't want to lose customers! Have your friends do the same, if they are using Firefox 1.0.
