Does anyone know of a fingerprint reader/password manager that will work with Firefox. I got one of the new Microsoft fingerprint readers for Christmas but had to take it back because it will work ONLY with IE. I refuse to use IE so I knew that the device was useless for me. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

I did a search, and got this, dated 12/12/2004: "I bought an APC reader and like it a lot. It doesn't work with Mozilla or Firefox but the tech support says new software is coming out any day and that it will work with mozilla and firefox because of their popularity. Their tech support is just great and fast to get in touch with. And APC is a good company. "

Thanks. I wonder what they mean by "any day now ". I have also seen one put out by Targus, but can't find anything on its compatibility with Firefox.

    Fingerprint Readers and Firefox

The Digital Persona scanner on which the MS scanner is based when used with their version of the software works fine with Firefox, as well as allowing you to log in to a Domain. I recieved one from them at the office to test and really liked it. When I saw the MS keyboard bundle with the same hardware I picked one up using a gift certificate I recieved over the holidays. I was not pleased to learn that I can't log in to my home domain nor use it with Firefox, or any other browser besides IE.

The digital Persona hardware is not quite as slim, nor mounted in a keyboard but it works fine with real world software. SInce it the same hardware used by MS for their product, it is obviously a software choice made by MS to limit the usage. Bad call if you ask me. I think I will be returning this keyboard come this weekend.
