Hi, I accidentally held my SHIFT key on for too long and I heard a strange beep and my keyboard became disabled. I held my SHIFT key on again and same beep and my keyboard was ok. Only problem is that every time I turn my computer on or reboot, my keyboard is automatically disabled and I have to hold my SHIFT key down for it to work again. Is there a way I can get my keyboard to work after rebooting without having to hold on the SHIFT key?

snaky - Welcome to the Board :)

Control Panel > Accessibility Options > Keyboard and uncheck/check as appropriate.

Check out Accessibility Options in Control Panel.

If you are still unable to fix it, do a System Restore prior to this happening.

They are all unchecked already (ie no ticks in boxes) and I'm still having the same problem. Any other suggestions??

While holding down the right Shift key, hold down as well the left Shift key.

Count to 10 slowly. Release the keys.

For the record, what exactly fixed your issue with Stick Keys?

    Thanks.

Well, it's pretty long winded, but here goes: What I was doing was rebooting my machine and the filter keys were stuck on - rendering my keyboard useless! So, I would hold down the Shift key for 8 seconds and then my keyboard would work. However, every time I rebooted my machine, my keyboard wouldn't work again and I'd have to hold the shift key down again. Basically, every time I rebooted, I couldn't use my keyboard.

Someone in BBS told me that all the options in Accessibility Options had to be unchecked (ie no tick in box) Anyway, I checked my Accessibility options and all the boxes were unticked. Then I rebooted and before pressing the Shift key to enable my keyboard, I checked accessibility options and found that the box next to Filter Keys was ticked. I unticked it, saved my choice and then rebooted - it worked!

When I was pressing the Shift key for 8 seconds every time I rebooted
my machine, I was disabling the filter keys, but this option was not
being saved and would revert back to the filter keys every time I
    rebooted!
