Windows Vista files keep crashing

    HELP!!!! Everytime i try to open any sort of file desktop vanishes and i have to reboot. The windows that i have opened will stay visible but desktop and task bar dissapear. I have Norton security and spyware doctor.
    will try anything please.

    What is happening is that explorer is crashing. Start here: Troubleshooting Windows Explorer Errors.

    You can also check Event Viewer, go to Start and type eventvwr.msc, in the Start Search box and hit Enter.

    Check your Application and System logs (under Windows Logs) for errors.

    You can double click on any error for more details, and there is also a button to copy the error to your clipboard for easy copying & pasting.

    thanks for the help but didnt work. now comes up a window saying buffer overrun
