I recently formated and installed 98SE to a old box.I placed a folder in My Documents to hold downloads, drivers, etc.but when I move a file that gets placed in "my documents "to the folder it becomes a short cut.
I have never experienced this problem with 98 before.Any feedback would be appreciated.

When you want to move a file from one folder to another first click on the file to hi-lite it then right click and hold the right mouse button down and drag the file to the new folder. When over the new folder release the right mouse button and you will get a drop down menu the has several choices. Left click on "Move here" and the file will be moved as original and not a shortcut.

You can also "cut" and "paste" from the old folder to the new one.

zethz--As JohnB has suggested the key is to right click and drag/drop. A left click and drag/drop often automatically creates a shortcut.

That did the trick.Maybe its because I havent used 98 in quite awhile but I just dont remember having to go through that to transfer a file.Seems as though I always used a left click, hold, drag & drop.Making a short cut from a file was right click, choose from drop down menu.Is there an option in 98 for moving files?I did change from double clicks to single but dont think that would have changed the process.
