    Hi all,

I used the Windows CD Burning Utility. There were about 500MBs of stuff I "thought" were burned. However, when I went to check the disk, nothing was on it!

I did a cut\paste of the folder where all my stuff was and now I can't find the originals to try again.

Any ideas as to where in the heck the original folder is?

Windows disk burning is not a "full blown" burning program, it only has the basics. I only use it if I have to, when a dedicated burning program is not available.

Try reading the CD on another computer.

Some other suggestions would be to check if there is a cache of temporary files that were used for burning (the files it has stored when you see "There are files waiting to be burned to disk "). Do a search of the HDD for the file names of any of those that you were burning.

You could look at file recovery. A program that can try to read the CD or a program that can "undelete" files on the HDD.

If I try to think back to why I avoid using Windows burning, it seems eerily similar to your situation.

I don't know if it is applicable, but the disk might need to be "finalised "/ "closed ". You could try doing that with a burning program.

    Matt

AShampoo have a quite good and free Burning program, only drawback is you have to Register and they will send you Advertising material, I don't mind it as I have purchased some of the specials they offer you.
I use AShampoo Burning 9 the pro version that cost me something like $9.- on a special offer and it does everything that I ask of it.
Nero 9 is great too at around $100.-

    Hi guys,

@ Matt, I've searched everywhere and can' find diddly. I tried "UnDelete" and it turned up nothing. Even a wildcard search with a "_" or a "~" in front came up dry. On another computer the disk still shows the same — nothing. I think my main mistake was doing a cut\paste instead of a copy\paste; making sure it was burned OK first. I know they're still there, I'm just gonna have to dig deeper.

@ Hawk, I have always used Nero and it has always done what it should do. Then, when I got the SATA DVD\CD burner, I started using CDBurnerXP (free, by the way) and I've never had any problems (or advertising or anything else) burning anything CD\DVD related; including a Dual Layer disk.

The files were on another drive that didn't have either of the two programs installed, that's why I used the XP burner (which is Roxio extra-light, I think).

I feel kinda foolish now that I didn't take the three minutes to DL and install a burner.

Oh, well, another lesson learned the hard way.
