    Hello all,

A month ago, I sold an HP printer to a client; One week later, he called me saying that the 'black cartridge' was over and that he did not print more than 10 pages.

Fine, I took the printer back and gave him another brand new one.
One week later, he called me for the same matter; Again, I took his printer and I gave him another brand new one.

Yesterday, he called me for the same thing: he said that the cartridge is over and he did not even print 10 papers.

Well, I kind of doubt it. This is the same printer I sell since few months and never had any problem.

Is there a file under WinXP that contains/show the number of prints; I really need to be sure that he did not print that much, specially that he is in the insurance field, where printing and sending letters to clients is a major part of his activity.

    Thanx in advance.

In theory, you should be able to recreate the problem in a couple of minutes.

What happens when you stick a new cartridge in the printer?

joedotm, my ordinary pages may be very different from your ordinary pages and as would be eveybody else's. If you want to goto bottom of this thing just call in the customer with his documents on cd and print them in your office on the exact page settings that the customer uses. Maybe then you would know.

joedotm--I do not know what business you are in, but as has been said, if the cartridge runs out of ink, you do not need to replace the printer, just the cartridge. I also do not know what model printer your customer bought, but one week's "light" use should not empty an OEM cartridge, although I have heard that some printer makers include a very small capacity cartridge with the printer as OEM. A full retail cartridge should last for several hundred pages at least. Replacement of that cartridge should be the responsibility of the customer,
Having said all that, there are settings tabs on the window when the Print command is invoked to determine how much ink is used per printed page. Perhaps you should investigate what setting that customer is using.
