What would be the easiest way for two cable modem users to transfer files to/from each other? My buddy lives down the block and we both have the same cable modem provider, as well as both of us have Linksys routers. Sometimes when trying to use email, the file sizes are too large. I'm not sure I want to go the FTP server route, or run PC Anywhere due to security fears. Is there something out there that makes what we want to do simple but yet somewhat secure? Hoping somebody can tell me about a little killer app we both could run that required a password before accessing, limited to only those files placed in a specific folder or drive? Bot of our IP address stay static for many months at a time so it seems we could "find" each other easy enough. Any ideas out there? Thanks.

Any instant messenging program can do what you want, you could even use Net Meeting. To be absolutely secure, you can make a phone call telling each other when to load the program, then shut it down afterwards.

what i do with my friends is setup an irc fserve.
that way, we can download off each other whenever we want.

search for irc scripts and you'll find tons of info that can help you.
