File Tab in Word Toolbar Flickers

I have this problem that occurs of and on in Word / Excel / and other toolbars
the file tab or any other highlighted tab starts to flicker and when you left mouse click the tab to access the drop down menu nothing happens
Is there a fix for this or does anybody know what is the cause to this problem

Using 'alt' like a shift key, doing alt-f or first letter of other options do you get the proper drop down menu or does that cause flickering too?

 

Hi Sparrow.....No I access via the method you suggested .Alt F for File
Alt V for View etc no problems with the drop down options menu
It's just this flickering of the high lighted Tab keys that wont activate via mouse click ....Any suggestions

That sounds like a hardware problem. Have you tried another mouse?

 

I think you are right with the Hardware Problem...I would suspect Ps/2 connector on the motherboard being a bit suss....Will try USB Mouse
