file/printer sharing

Well... myhusband says I'm getting crabby about this, so I best ask for help. Got a new laptop and set up a wireless network and share internet access. Have been unable to share files or printer or scanner. I've read everything I can find. I've tried too many times... I'd like to delete what I've done and start over. My question is .. where an I get simple step by step instructions. The ones in my wondows xp aren't working. Thanks!
