I'm probably being very stupid here, the windows explorer window in W2K has a pane on the left of the file list. If you highligt a file it will show a small thumbnail/preview, and you can play it from there.
Firstly what is this pane called and secondly can I get it on XP?
when I installed XP I was playing around with settings to see what it was all about, I am sure it was there when i loaded it.
    Any help appreciated.

Try windows explorer~tools~folder options~view and click the button to reset all folders. That will return most of the WE settings to their defaults (as they were at install time).

Thanks but I've been down that road and back up again.
Basically in win2000 if you go to tools----> folder options there is a setting 'web view' and on this machine it enables/disables the pane I'm talking about. It doesn't have web view on the XP but it does have 'tasks' but only to show common tasks in folders or classic view.....neither changes the view at all in explorer....
    ........stumped.
