Dates of MS Word files stored on our computer are inconsistently wrong. (I’m posting this in the WinXP (Pro) forum assuming Windows controls these dates.)

In many cases the "Date Created" post-dates the "Date Modifiedâ€. And the "Date Created" is not the correct in many cases. The incorrect date appears both in Windows Explorer and the Word doc Properties.

I’ve not detected a pattern or a potential cause… other than we use a parsing program to extract name and address information from resumes to create contact records. (We’re recruiters.)

It appears that the true DC and DM dates are modified at least some of the time when I run this program against a resume.

    The questions are:

    - What are potential causes of incorrect dates?
    - Can I get the real dates back?

In the Control Panel, under Date and Time, check to see if the settings are correct. Then see, under the Internet Time tab, if your comp is scheduled to connect with an internet timeserver. If it is, you may want to change it, or disable it. Check under Regional and Language settings while you are in the Control Panel and make sure your comp knows where it is. Reboot the comp and check your times in the CMOS.

I use a freebie program called Atomic Clock Sync, instead of the built in XP timeserver, that connects with the world timeserver at http://www.worldtimeserver.com/ at the intervals you specify.

Thank you Johanna for your suggestions.

I should have indicated that I'm certain the dates were originally correct and become corrupt later. So I do not think it has to do with my PC date/time settings.

Did you, or did you not, check your system clocks? There is no point trying to troubleshoot w/o doing that first.
