I am having a severe "Senior Moment."

Some where along the way I've lost the ability to read power point files folks send me. I've downloaded the latest Viewer from MS and get no errors during installation.

If I save a file, then run the viewer by selecting the file, I can read the file. But double-clicking brings up a dialog box indicating I need to set some parameters or and delete the file.

As I remember there is a way to assign or change file extension assignment, but just can't remember how.

    I'm using XP Pro SP1.

    Hi, Cal. :)

In Windows Explorer (Start > All Programs > Accessories > Windows Explorer):
    • Click Tools > Folder Options... > File Types tab.
    • Scroll down the "Registered file types" list to the entries that contain the following. (You might not have all the same entries as me.)
      • PPS Microsoft PowerPoint Slide Show
(The PPS file type is commonly included in e-mail attachments.)
      • PPSM Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2007 Macro-Enabled Show
      • PPSX Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2007 Show
      • PPT Microsoft PowerPoint Presentation
(The PPT file type is commonly included in e-mail attachments.)
      • PPTHTML Microsoft PowerPoint HTML Document
      • PPTM Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2007 Macro-Enabled Presentation
      • PPTMHTML PPTMHTML File
      • PPTX Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2007 Presentation
    • Click the Change... button for any of those file types you want to change the default program for.
    • Choose your "latest Viewer from MS " (should be listed in the "Recommended Programs" near the top of the pick-list).
(Mine open with Microsoft Office by default.)
    • Be sure to place a check mark at the bottom of the list where it says, "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file. "
    • Click the OK button.
    • Click the Apply button at the bottom of the "Folder Options" window.
When you are finished making all your changes, click the OK button at the bottom of the "Folder Options" window.

I suggest rebooting after all your changes are made.
