I can't seem to find anything on this issue that is definitive (most unusual for this BBS!) so am starting out here.... moderators, please move if inappropriate to this forum!

I used to have a fax program which worked thru my 56k internal modem but didn't really need it for work since we had three fax-dedicated lines there. Since 'leaving' them, i've had no use for faxing at all and in the interim got DSL (first from Telocity, now from Verizon/Qwest) and I find that there seems to be no comparable fax software/hardware available for use with DSL as it doesn't dial a number but is always connected.

I suppose I could use EFAX but the cost-per-page is a little scary at a transmitted effective 11.8 cents cost and received faxes at 20 cents cost per. Also, I just am not comfortable with the service.

So, what to do? After researching this (probably insufficiently) I decided to come search the BBS and found very little on the subject (see first snide comment).

How say you all? Anyone got a flash of brilliance that would elucidate this for me (and whomever stumbles across this and successive posts?)

All help and information gratefully received!

    Fat Vince

In order to send faxes from your computer you definately need to either use one of the services on the Internet such as EFax or install a fax program and use a modem and phone line.

I use WinFax myself, there are lots of other programs out there, some come bundled with a new modem or can be dowloaded free off the Internet. Do a search using your favorite search engine and you'll likely come up with dozens of sites to check out. Then you just have to decide which one is best for your needs.

If by chance you are using Win XP it has faxing built in. And works very nicely I might add.
