My Favourites list has become so unwieldy with dozens of XP , IE, etc related URLs that I have great difficulty in finding the URL I need to refer to.

A swift Google came up with Favorites Search - neat little applet and it works for me :)

PeteC--I have been using Agent Ransack for all searching on my PC.
    http://www.mythicsoft.com/agentransack/default.aspx
It finds Favorites as well as other files, assuming I have the right word to search on. How would Favorites Search be different (other than perhaps limiting the search to only Favorites)?
And I have put most of my Favorites into Folders to hopefully make it a little easier to find one without using any search engine.

    Jim,

I also used AgentRansack for a number of years and was sufficiently impressed to shell out for the Pro version. If I find a piece of freeware to be indispensable I often move up to the paid version to encourage those who write these little gems to keep at it! File Locator Pro will find a key word in Favourites, of course, but it is a long winded process going back to the Desktop, opening up File Locator Pro, selecting the drive on which Favourites are stored (Not the C: drive in my case) and so on. So much quicker and more convenient to search from within IE.

Favourites Search searches within the Favourites list only and includes a search button to place on the IE toolbar. Previously searched items are also stored in a new Favourites folder - Last Found Items - if required.

I too organise my Favourites in Folders, but these are becoming bloated with innumerable references to various articles, links, etc relating to the many problems we try to address on the Board. The key word is often in the midst of the URL title and difficult to spot or duplicated or in different folders - example - CHKDSK which turns up in my Win XP folder and in my Hardware folder as .....

    Microsoft Technet - Chkdsk
    The Benefits of using CHKDSK
    Microsoft Windows XP - chkdsk

Maybe I should get better organised :) but for now I shall give Favourites Search a try and see how it pans out.

    Hi Charles,

Am I missing something here - your URL seems to refer to Windows Hotkey assignment, not to Favourites

I know it's just past mid day here and I should be awake :D

In a rush, so have not digested what has been said in the last few posts.
For Favorites in an .htm file form, click IE File|Import and Export|follow the instructions for Export Favorites. (It produces a Bookmarks.htm file.)
If you want to search for text inside files (including Favorites, though that seems a little hard to believe) I am told Copernic Desktop Search does that.
    http://www.copernic.com/en/products/desktop-search/
Have not used it. And I believe there is some potential privacy issues attached to Copernic.

Thanks for your comments, but I think you are missing the point :)

My Favourites list - always open in IE, is as long as your arm - to scroll through that and the sub folders - even though they are logically arranged and reasonably well sorted into categories takes time. Due to the length of some of the entries it is necessary to adjust the width of the Favourites pane to see them - another pain. It's easy to become a bit dyslexic when looking at a mass of text :)

All I wanted was a search facility that would search Favourites only, from within IE - Favourites Search seems to fit the bill nicely.

I know there are other ways, but these are not as slick, IMO.
